Punam Amin, M.D., (formerly Punam Parikh) is a colorectal surgeon in Houston, Texas.Dr. Amin completed an accelerated, combined B.S./M.D. track and received a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Miami in 2009. She then finished medical school at the University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine in 2014. She completed general surgery residency at University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital in 2021 after spending two years involved in research. She received the Association for Academic Surgery (AAS) General Surgery Clinical Science Research award for her work in 2018. Her fellowship in colorectal surgery was completed at Baylor Scott & White in Dallas, Texas. Dr. Amin is double board certified in general surgery and colorectal surgery.
Dr. Amin specializes in surgical procedures for benign and malignant pathology of the colon, rectum and anus. She has a special interest in advanced laparoscopic and robotic surgical procedures for colon and rectal cancer, including sphincter saving procedures for low rectal cancer. She is a member of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons and offers laparoscopic pouch procedures for ulcerative colitis and minimally invasive surgery for Crohn鈥檚 disease.
Dr. Amin has a special interest in oncologic trials and outcomes research. Her research interests focus on health disparities and outcome-based translational research in colorectal pathology with a focus on colorectal cancer outcomes. She has dozens of peer-reviewed publications and over 100 presentations and posters. Dr. Amin is actively involved with the American College of Surgeons and American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons, serving as a member of the Pelvic Floor Disorders consortium. She enjoys spending her time working at an academic institution and teaching future generations of surgeons by working closely with surgical residents and medical students.
