Professional Statement
I have devoted the last eight years of my academic career to the field of reproductive psychiatry and have been fortunate enough to gain a national reputation in this growing field. I am seeking promotion on a clinician-educator track, non-tenured from assistant to associate professor. I have taught over 100 medical students annually with my role as a critical thinking and problems solving facilitator from 2019-2021 and a learning community advisor from 2019-2023 working closely with 32 students annually. During this time from 2019-2021, I was enrolled in the Master Teacher鈥檚 Fellowship Program (MTFP) at 草榴社区入口. My graduation project addressed educational gaps for OB-GYN residents in reproductive psychiatry. I hold the position of education director for our reproductive psychiatry division at 草榴社区入口. I work closely with a team of faculty members to plan the clinical and didactic experience for medical students, residents and fellows who rotate through our service. Faculty development and staff collaboration is an integral part of my role as education director, and I have led an annual education retreat for our reproductive psychiatry faculty. Nationally, I have presented my educational initiative to train OB-GYNs in reproductive psychiatry at NASPOG (North American Society of Psychosocial Obstetrics and Gynecology) at the 2022 and 2024 biannual national conference. Lastly, I serve as a faculty member for Postpartum Support International and teach reproductive psychopharmacology to first line providers for women鈥檚 health. My primary clinical assignment and passion has been in community care. I have worked in an underserved area of Northwest Houston since my appointment to 草榴社区入口 in 2016. I work closely with a multidisciplinary team: MFM physician, diabetes educator, genetic counseling, nurses and ultrasound technicians. I was an integral part of an initiative that trained all 52 Texas Children鈥檚 Pediatric Practices as well as community obstetric clinics on screening and referral resources for perinatal depression. I have implemented a dialectal behavioral therapy skills training group for pregnant and postpartum women in this community clinic/ I have completed advanced work in trauma based therapy, eye movement desensitization and reprocessing, given the prevalence of trauma in the perinatal population. I am known for implementing trauma informed care in all medical and psychotherapy visits. I have a growing expertise in menopause and racial disparities in maternal mental health care and have appeared on television, blogs and podcasts regarding these matters.
