Professional Interests
- Impact of the microbiota on intestinal immune responses
Professional Statement
The lab鈥檚 focus is the crosstalk between the intestinal immune system and the microbiota. We previously determined that signals from the microbiota promote intestinal homeostasis by both facilitating mucosal healing and limiting the induction of inflammatory immune responses against intestinal antigens. We are now examining the specific microbes involved in these processes as well as identifying the signaling pathways mediating these responses. This will allow selective manipulation of the intestinal immune system to either increase immune responses (in the case of infectious diseases) or limit them (in the case of inflammatory disorders such as IBD).Websites
