The event will be held Nov. 13 at 7 p.m. at the Hope & Healing Center at St. Martin鈥檚 Episcopal Church, 717 Sage Rd. It is free to attend in person or virtually.

Dr. Melissa Yu, director of the Alzheimer鈥檚 Disease and Memory Disorders Center (ADMDC) at Baylor Medicine, and Dr. Roy Lin, assistant professor of neurology at Baylor, will discuss the basics of Alzheimer鈥檚 disease, current therapies, new approaches and the latest in new research that could lead to promising new treatments.

鈥淭here have been exciting new developments in Alzheimer鈥檚 disease since last year鈥檚 talk, including the first medication approved by the FDA to delay progression of Alzheimer鈥檚 disease and new tests to aid in making a more definitive diagnosis,鈥 Yu said. 鈥淓arly detection of the disease is becoming more critical for identifying people who may benefit from the new diagnostic and therapeutic tools.鈥

Alzheimer鈥檚 and dementia currently affect an estimated 6 million Americans and are the sixth leading cause of death among Americans. Dementia hits close to home, too; an estimated 400,000 Texans are currently living with dementia or Alzheimer鈥檚.

鈥淎t the Alzheimer鈥檚 Association, we envision a world without Alzheimer鈥檚,鈥 says Richard Elbein, CEO of the Alzheimer鈥檚 Association-Houston & Southeast Texas Chapter. 鈥淯ntil we achieve that goal, we will continue to support research and dementia care. We are thrilled to partner once again with 草榴社区入口 and their physician leaders, who will educate Houstonians about the landscape of dementia research and care.鈥
