Elective Courses
Electives are an excellent opportunity for fourth-year medical students to expand and solidify the student's surgical knowledge base, and to practice clinical skills. Elective courses are offered in four-week segments and registration for electives is processed for ²ÝÁñÉçÇøÈë¿Ú students through the Office of the Registrar.
The Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery also welcomes fourth-year medical students in good standing from medical schools in the United States and Canada to ²ÝÁñÉçÇøÈë¿Ú as elective students. Requests for electives are handled through the AAMC Visiting Student Learning Opportunities (VSLO) system.
